About Quimera Theatre Collective

...a thing of immortal make, not human, lion-fronted and snake behind, a goat in the middle, and snorting out the breath of the terrible flame of bright fire (From Homer's The Illiad)

The Quimera Theatre Collective is a theatre company comprised of UBC Theatre, SFU, and Studio 58 students and graduates dedicated to creating, producing, and performing their own work. Quimera Theatre produced Pirates? at the 2012 Vancouver International Fringe Festival for its onsite programme and is currently working on a new show, Death of A Playwright, for the 2013 festival's MainStage.

"Quimera" is the spanish word for the Chimaera,  a mythical beast made up of the body and head of a lioness, the head of a goat and a tail with a snake head at the end. The figure of the "glare-eyed lion", the gentler goat, the "powerful snake or drakon" (Hesiod) united in the body of a fire-breathing creature reflects our  company's interest in exploring and bending the traditional model for creating theatre. In making our own work, we are each concerned not only with the traditional roles of actor or director or writer but also keep a dramaturgical eye out for the craft of making drama --building plays makes us think about what is theatrically charged or dramatic.  Making theatre like this,  with several heads working in harmony and conflict makes for an exciting,  fiery, and creatively ripe process that results in a play in which we are all deeply invested and active
